Now that you've learned about modern-day slavery and human trafficking, it is sort of impossible to turn your back on it. Now that you know something, the time is NOW to do something about it. You have so much power than you may think. We hope we can help you realize it
Step 1: Explore!
We would encourage you to spend some time at our website to get a sense of our work. If you like what we are doing, please join the Freedom Connect community, follow on Twitter (@survivorconnect) or Facebook. At Freedom Connect, you can learn more about other activists and what they are doing. We'll regularly post petitions you can sign, advocacy events, and events happening near you, and you'll also have access to our growing digital library of documents and information for your local movement. If you have a blog or a website, please consider writing about Survivors Connect and displaying our banners.
Step 2: Find your area interest
In your exploration, think about what your area interests are. Are you interested in policy advocacy, victim services, research or something in between? Is there a certain region of the world that intrigues you? Are you a professional who would like to learn how to use your skill set to combat trafficking? No matter what you do, there is a place to get involved. Please check our our web community to learn about all the areas that you can get involved in!
Step 3: Find yourself in the Movement!
Once you’re at this step, think about your vantage point and skill set and how you can put these to action in the movement against trafficking and slavery. Here are just some ideas, but you’re not limited
- Give to Causes/Organizations: As you explore the site, you can link to organizations around the world, who have individual websites. If there is a particular group that moves you, donate to them, and help support their abolitionist movements on the ground. You can also donate to Survivors Connect here.
- Join us at a Survivors Connect Event: We hold monthly webinars with survivors of trafficking and slavery who have participated in the Survivors Quilt, as well as activists globally. These webinars are meant for activists globally to get engaged and learn about the situation first hand.
- Support & Use The Survivors Quilt: The Survivor’s Quilt has been traveling to several conferences, events, fundraisers and museums. We encourage you to apply to use the Survivors Quilt for your own event. See page for more detail
- Help an Organization pilot a SMS:Freedom Project: Our work is iterative and open source, meaning we help provide the tools and ideas, and organizations can adopt the parts they like into their own local movement. If you're an anti-trafficking organization that wants to try this type of work out, please email and let us know! We can help get you started!
If you have some time to spare, we welcome your help. Survivors Connect is a volunteer-led web network and so we need all the help we can get. Email us at volunteer@survivorsconnect.org and tell us about the skill set you’re interested in volunteering. We’re looking particularly for experts on up and coming web technology.
Thanks! We look forward to working with you!
